Dear Secretary-General Barnett,
Allow me to extend to you my sincere congratulations on the Golden Jubilee of the Caribbean Community. After five decades, it is an undeniable fact that the Treaty of Chaguaramas and its later revision had positive impacts on the lives of the citizens of the Community and contributed to the regional integration process.
Slovenia joined the common path with CARICOM as an observer a decade ago with the aim of further expanding our cooperation with the Caribbean Community, with which we share common values and objectives. What is more, Slovenian citizens, like the citizens of your Community, are particularly sensitive to the environment and its protection and aspire to counter the effects of climate change, another reason for Slovenia to feel close to the region.
Our country understands the theme of the celebration “50 Years Strong: A Solid Foundation to Build on” as an invitation to further enhance our dialogue and cooperation, and we are looking forward to it wholeheartedly.
As of 1 January 2024, Slovenia will assume a two-year seat in the UN Security Council during which it is our sincere desire to address meaningfully the most serious global security challenges. l am confident that together we can all contribute to the promotion of international peace, security and stability. Allow me to seize this opportunity to thank you for the possibility to present our candidacy at the COFCOR meeting this past May, that led to the endorsement of our candidacy by the esteemed Council.
Please accept, dear Secretary-General, the assurances of my highest consideration.
