Hon. Antonio Tajani, Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation

Dear Secretary General,

on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas, that established the Caribbean Community, I wish to convey to you and, through you, to all the Member States of the CARICOM, my best wishes for this very symbolic and significant anniversary.

I trust that the excellent friendship relations that exist between Italy and the Caribbean countries will be able to further strengthen and expand, seizing the opportunities offered by the collaborations in place both on a bilateral level and within the main regional, multilateral and global
fora. The goal is to face the great challenges of our time – the fight against climate change, environmental protection, support for economic growth, the ecological and digital transition, food security, global health – which bring us closer and they bring us together.

Thanks to the legal agreements in force – the Italy – CARICOM Memorandum of collaboration and the Memorandum between our Ministry of Environment and Energy Security and the CARICOM for cooperation in the field of sustainable development – we have important tools, capable of
advancing our relations, which can be further fueled through the aid credit line opened by Italy at the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and which we trust the Caribbean countries will want to corroborate, supporting Rome’s candidacy for EXPO 2030.

Italy is also playing a proactive role within the European Union, in order to give a renewed dynamism to Euro-Caribbean relations, which show interesting margins for expansion, that will be examined during the III EU-CELAC Summit on the 17-18 July, in Brussels and, subsequently, on the
occasion of the XI Italy-Latin America and Caribbean Conference, which will take place on October 12-13 here in Rome.

While waiting to be able to meet you personally. I send you my best and kindest regards

Antonio Tajani
