Jamaican creative Andre Bartley is elated that his artwork emerged as the winning entry in the CARICOM 50th Anniversary Logo Competition.
In addition to a monetary prize, Bartley’s logo design will brand all communication products and events to celebrate the anniversary.
Bartley explained he received the news while perusing emails for responses to job applications, having unfortunately been made redundant.
“I went to check my emails to see if any responses were there. I saw this message from CARICOM saying congratulations, and I smiled from ear to ear!”
A regional judging panel selected Bartley’s design from 40 entries.
The logo highlights the numeral 50, wrapped with a ribbon illustrating the flags of CARICOM member states.
Describing his creative process, Bartley said, “The Caribbean Community is about unity. The countries are all united, flowing through 50 years together. I used the zero as the earth with CARICOM on top, and the ribbon is wrapped around it, embracing 50 years.”
CARICOM’s golden jubilee anniversary year commences on 4 July. The milestone coincides with the 45th Meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government. Both celebrations are scheduled to return to the birthplace of CARICOM, the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
